Question for you FJ-40 experts - is this a good starter to build up an offroad toy? Hope the link works ....

Jim, that all depends on how you plan to get it to a trail truck. If you do the work yourself, it worth a few hundred dollars. If you plan to have it built by someone you pay, wait for a better truck that is ready for the trails. Used stock engines can be found for near nothing. If you plan to put in a V8, there are again many cheap ways to go.

If the transmission and X-fer case are not full or water/rust, I would say it's a good place to start. Besides, you can set up "Tech Sessions" for the FLCA to help with it.

I'm a "hands on" kind of guy and would do all the work myself - or at least everything possible. The blow back I'm getting from wife deals with where to put it while I tear it down and rebuild it and what it would eventually end up costing me - absolutely no way to calculate that IMO.

I'm not sure I want to go for it anyway so if anyone else is interested feel free to bid on it, no hard feelings!
