I have owned many jeeps in the past and always loved Land Cruisers, but couldnt afford one. My girlfriends dad owns 2 fj40s, but neither run. So after 2 years went by after selling all my jeeps, my family got a place in Murphy NC, about 5 minutes from Tellico, so i figured its time to get back into 4x4s. Bought a 79 FJ40 about a year and a half ago. and been wrenching on it ever since. It was stock rustic green with 35's and no fenders. The paint was more rustic than green, so i stripped the paint and gave it a olive drab rattle can job. Then ordered some 37" iroks which where going to be my goal to make fit. So i went SOA, and still at this time finishing it up. Just need front driveshaft and rear trac bar.
When i bought the cruiser it had a chevy 350 installed, with lots of power. Had a Berry Grant double pumper 750 carb and huge cam. So since the carb sucks offroad i swapped for a quadrajet, and after 3 q-jets later, i was sick of tuning them. They can get enough vacuum with the big cam.
So went out and bought an edelbrock 600 performer, runs great now, and just waiting for spring loaded needles to show up from summit. Still have the stock 6 cylinder, and wondering if it will be almost worth it to swap back in.
anyways, heres some pics.
Some of you might now me from a long time ago, my father Randy helped open Lokey Crosslander and used to chip in when they first opened up.
