Trail communications

Jerry's post on communications is pretty awsome! Very comprehensive. What is the CB brand you have found to be most reliable/trouble-free?

For an open vehicle exposed to the elements, cheap is nice.
I don't feel so bad if a cheap garage sale special gets wet.

I think it's Cobra that makes a CB that all controls and speaker is on the mike. the unit can be remote mounted out of site. What a neat concept. It's tempting to go out and buy one.

Check out the Radio Shack "Sports" model TRC-442. The FLCA bought three of them as loaners to members on trail rides. They are water resistant and small in size. They do not have an external speaker jack so hearing it in an open 40 at highway speed will be difficult. But for the trails and in bad weather, it has a lot going for it. You may not find them at Radio Shack, as they have resently been hard to find. Check out the internet, should be some around. They're about $35 - $40.
